Lecturers in Structural Biology of Large Macromolecular Complexes (2 posts)

Salary: £43,350 - £48,400 per annum
The Division of Molecular Biosciences at Imperial College London invites applications for two Lecturer posts in the area of structural biology. Candidates should have expertise in one of the following areas: using electron microscopy to study large macromolecular complexes and/or using electron tomography to visualize macromolecular complexes in cells.
The successful candidates will join the Division of Molecular Biosciences in the Department of Life Sciences to lead research in their areas of expertise. The successful candidates will be expected to contribute to the teaching of biochemistry or biology degree courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
The post holders will be expected to plan and direct the implementation of research activities and programmes of outstanding quality, international repute and innovation in their research areas.
You must have a PhD (or equivalent) in structural biology, biochemistry or a related area. You will have a proven track record in conducting outstanding independent research, as evidenced by high quality publications in peer reviewed journals. It is essential that applicants have the potential to undertake and lead original research in their area of expertise. A demonstrable ability to publish at the highest international level and to raise significant research funding from a variety of sources are essential. The capability to attract high-quality research students is also essential.
The successful applicant must be an effective communicator, able to convey ideas and concepts clearly and effectively to a range of audiences through a variety of methods and media. You must also have the ability to communicate with students, inspire them and present scientific research in an enthusiastic, creative and motivating manner. A high level of analytical ability with the potential to provide scientific leadership are essential, as well as the ability to work as part of a team and be open-minded and cooperative. Applicants must be disciplined, have a high regard for confidentiality and security at all times. A willingness to undertake any necessary training and development activities for the role is also essential.
