The Scottish Agricultural College (SAC) is one of Europe's leading specialist institutions in science and technology - with 850 staff providing education, training, research and development, advice and consultancy services to the land-based industries.

Applications are invited for a new 3 year project to develop breeding programmes incorporating genomic information for milking goats in the UK will commence in 2012. We are looking for a person with strong quantitative and programming skills to work in a team of animal breeders that will analyse large data sets from major UK goat milk producers and incorporating genomic information for a range of different characteristics. Ability to work independently and pro-actively to strict deadlines for planned milestones in the project will be necessary so we are seeking a highly motivated individual with good organisational abilities.

The successful applicant will ideally have an MSc in animal breeding or a related filed (i.e. plant breeding, human genetics or statistical genetics or mathematics). Knowledge of the dairy sector is desirable but not essential. A thorough background in handling and analysing SNP genotype data and experience with variance component estimation or mixed models is considered to be of additional value.

This post is fixed term until 30 March 2015 in the first instance.

The salary will be in the region of £31,470 - £34,740  per annum.
