The Bodleian Libraries are looking for a Chinese Studies Librarian to develop services and collections to meet the growing demand for Chinese.
You will be working as part of a partnership with the Curator of Chinese Collections to develop a programme of strategic innovations in consultation with other senior library staff. You will be specifically responsible for the implementation of these strategic developments and for ongoing development of the general electronic and printed research collections; oversight of the Chinese teaching collections/service and Korean collections/service, public relations, and fundraising initiatives.
You will have a degree (or equivalent) in Chinese Studies and either a professional qualification in librarianship and/or extensive library experience in this field. You will have experience of electronic resources in the subject field of Chinese Studies or similar, sound knowledge of simplified form jiantizi and original form fantizi and familiarity with both Wade-Giles and Hanyu pinyin transliteration. You will have a sound knowledge of written and spoken Mandarin Chinese and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of library staff, users and visitors, both orally and in writing, in English and Chinese. You will be able to manage an institutional budget and lead a small team, inspiring in them a strong service philosophy and commitment to service development.
